Discovering the city through its churches is an unusual and particularly intimate way to trace Venetian history, as well as being a major opportunity to see masterworks in their original context.

The most significant event of contemporary art in Venice is the Biennale, an international exhibit that alternates each year between art and architecture.

There is a place in Venice where a person passionate of art can enjoy some of the greatest masterpieces of Venetian painting, the Accademia Galleries.

Peggy Guggenheim was a unique character. Inside her house-museum we can admire masterpieces of her favourite artists, Picasso, Max Ernst, Pollock, Calder among others. They have all left a considerable mark in the art history of the 20th century.

The 18th century identifies Venice at its best. This is the century of political and economic decline, of feasts and of carnival, of gambling, of Casanova's adventures.

The Correr Museum unveils several aspects of the past Venetian culture and history. The Museum can be accessed from the Ala Napoleonica, a wing of the Royal Palace in St. Mark's Square.

This itinerary focuses on two important monuments: the 'Frari' church and the 'Scuola' of San Rocco (a lay brotherhood that operated with devotional purposes). They are one next to the other but their history differs dramatically.

In Venice the 'Ospedali' (hospitals) were also centres of production for music of high reputation. Two of these institutions are still well-preserved.

The tour offers the possibility of visiting Villa Tiepolo Passi in Carbonera, just a few kilometers from Venice and at the gates of Treviso. It is still occupied by its owners, the counts of Passi de Preposulo.
