Understanding the city

If Venice was a book this would be the introduction. If you are the kind of traveller that aims at becoming quickly acquainted with a new place, then this is your tour.

In 2 hours we walk through the centre of the city and learn how Venice was built, divided into districts, named and organised in respect to the different functions of the past. We start by taking a view of the Basin of St. Mark and its perspective on the Lagoon, then we move north crossing the maze of alleys of the district of Castello. We reach SS. Giovanni e Paolo and the Fondamente Nuove, a long embankment facing the part of the lagoon that separates Venice from the mainland. In the background the islands of Murano and San Michele. Walking through another district we head back to the inner side of the city, to the Grand Canal and the Bridge of Rialto, where our visit ends.
